From Belfast to Norway to Gaza

Today is a national holiday. The Norwegian Constitution was adopted at Eidsvoll on May 17th, 198 years ago, declaring Norway to be a free and independent nation. It would take almost a century for that vision to be achieved. In 1905 a referendum led to independence and a peaceful separation of Norway from Sweden.

This is a peaceful and prosperous nation which has fully embraced the social democratic values of liberty, equality and social justice. In 1940 the Goverment was forced into exile by invading German troops. The Occupation would last until the end of the war in 1945.
